In A Patriot For Me John Osborne explores the contradictory nature of his traitor hero Colonel Redl, a dedicated officer in the Austrian-Hungarian army of the 1900s. Denied public performance Patriot played at The Royal Court, forced into opening as a club theatre. A Cause Célèbre in 1965, Patriot remains a controversial play for today.
